Asian Food Catering in DFW: A Real Planning Guide

By The Jinbeh Family·May 2026·9 min read

Most people booking Asian food catering in DFW for the first time don't know what they don't know. They search “catering near me,” they get back a wall of generic results, and they pick the cheapest option on the page. Then on event day, they find out the sushi was made the night before, the rice is room-temperature, and the chef who was promised “tableside” turns out to be a buffet line with sterno cans. That catering is not the same as restaurant-quality Japanese food.

At Jinbeh, we've been catering Japanese food across the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 1988 from our Frisco and Lewisville locations. This is a real-world guide for anyone planning an office lunch, wedding, birthday party, corporate dinner, or holiday event — what to order, what it costs, what to ask, and what most people get wrong.

“Catering is just dinner-and-a-show moved off-site. The chef still cooks in front of your guests. The fish is still cut to order. The only thing that changes is the address.”

The two kinds of Asian catering, and which one you actually want

Before anything else, decide which format fits your event. The rest of the decision tree follows from this one choice.

Drop-off catering

We cook everything at the restaurant, plate it on presentation trays, and deliver it ready to serve. This is the right call for office lunches, large mixed buffets, school events, and any setting where guests serve themselves. Sushi trays, hibachi protein platters, appetizer spreads, salad bowls, dessert platters — all of it travels well when packed correctly.

Cost is lower (no chef, no setup labor on site), prep is simpler, and the food is genuinely restaurant-quality if you keep the delivery window short. Our drop-off catering generally lands at the venue within 30 minutes of leaving the kitchen.

Tableside hibachi catering

A Jinbeh chef travels to your venue with a portable teppanyaki grill and performs the live hibachi experience on-site. Knife tricks, flame work, the onion volcano, the egg-toss-into-the-hat trick — the whole show, just not at the restaurant.

Tableside is what you book for milestone birthdays, weddings, intimate anniversaries, or any event where the meal IS the entertainment. It costs more because it ties up a chef for several hours and requires significant setup, but it's the experience that people talk about for years afterward.

Insider Tip

Hybrid setups work well too. For weddings, the most-requested configuration is a sushi station at cocktail hour (drop-off style, guests graze) plus a tableside hibachi chef for the head table or the bride's family table. You get both atmospheres for one event.

What people actually order from Jinbeh catering

For office lunches (10-50 people)

  • Hibachi protein trays: steak, chicken, shrimp (mix and match)
  • Steamed white rice or hibachi fried rice
  • Mixed vegetables
  • One or two sushi sampler platters for variety
  • Edamame and gyoza appetizers
  • Ginger salad on the side

For birthday parties and family gatherings (15-30 people)

  • Sushi platter centerpiece — Dragon Roll, Rainbow Roll, Volcano Roll, California Roll variety
  • Sashimi tray with salmon, tuna, yellowtail
  • Hibachi protein platter for the entrée
  • Tempura appetizer tray
  • Kids' hibachi chicken portions if there are children at the party

For weddings (50-200 people)

  • Cocktail-hour sushi station with two to three rolling chefs cutting to order
  • Tableside hibachi for the head table or family table
  • Drop-off hibachi trays for the rest of the guest tables
  • Vegetarian hibachi options for dietary needs
  • Late-night ramen or onigiri station (regional specialty — ask)

For corporate dinners (10-25 senior people)

  • Tableside hibachi at the executive's home or a rented private venue
  • Premium proteins — filet mignon, lobster tail, scallops
  • Sushi appetizer course (Spider Roll, Volcano Roll, premium sashimi)
  • Sake pairing recommendations (we'll help you pick from our list)

Lead time and budget reality

Here's what to expect when planning. Adjust earlier if you have specific dietary needs or a custom menu request.

Event TypeLead TimeTypical Per-Person Range
Office drop-off lunch1 week$20-$30
Birthday party (drop-off)1-2 weeks$25-$40
Birthday party (tableside)2-3 weeks$60-$95
Corporate watch party or dinner2-3 weeks$40-$120
Wedding (sushi station + hibachi)4-8 weeks$75-$150

Ranges are guidance, not quotes — final pricing depends on protein selection, delivery distance, and whether tableside chef labor is included. Call us for an exact number.

Questions most people forget to ask

  • When was the fish bought? For sushi, the answer should be “today” or “within 48 hours.” Anything older has lost the texture that defines fresh nigiri
  • Will the food be reheated on site? Hibachi proteins don't reheat well. Ask how the caterer keeps the food at temperature without ruining the texture
  • What's your dietary restriction protocol? If the answer is vague, that's a red flag. Real Japanese caterers have a clear gluten-free, vegan, and allergen process
  • Who's the chef on the day? For tableside, ask which specific chef will run your event. Personality matters at a hibachi grill
  • What's the minimum for delivery? Don't assume; minimums vary by distance and time of day
  • Is gratuity included? For tableside hibachi chefs, gratuity is customary and sometimes pre-included in the package

Frequently asked questions

Does Jinbeh do Asian food catering in DFW?

Jinbeh caters Japanese food across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex from both our Frisco and Lewisville locations. We bring sushi platters, hibachi presentation trays, appetizer spreads, and full Japanese-cuisine catering to corporate offices, weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries, holiday gatherings, and private events. For tableside hibachi (the live chef show), our chefs travel to private homes and event venues with portable teppanyaki setups.

How much does Jinbeh catering cost per person in DFW?

Jinbeh catering pricing depends on what you order. Sushi presentation trays and hibachi protein trays typically run $20-$40 per person for delivered, drop-off style catering. Full tableside hibachi with a chef traveling to your venue is priced as a package and varies with group size, location, and protein selection. Sushi-only packages start lower; lobster and filet hibachi packages run higher. Call us for a custom quote at (214) 619-1200 (Frisco) or (214) 488-2224 (Lewisville).

How much advance notice does Jinbeh need for catering orders?

Standard catering orders need at least one week of lead time. Larger orders (50+ guests), tableside chef events, and wedding catering need 2-4 weeks. We can sometimes accommodate rush orders for repeat clients or smaller drop-off trays with less notice, but planning ahead always means better quality, more options, and a smoother day-of experience.

What's the difference between drop-off catering and tableside hibachi catering?

Drop-off catering means we prepare the food at the restaurant and deliver it on presentation trays, ready to serve. This works well for office lunches, large mixed buffets, and events where guests serve themselves. Tableside hibachi catering means a Jinbeh chef travels to your venue with a portable teppanyaki grill and performs the full hibachi show on-site — flame work, onion volcano, knife tricks, all of it. Tableside is the premium option, requires more setup time, and works best for weddings, milestone birthdays, and intimate corporate dinners.

Can Jinbeh accommodate dietary restrictions for catering?

Yes. Jinbeh catering accommodates vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, peanut, tree nut, shellfish, and soy restrictions. We've catered events where every dietary box was checked at the same table. Tell us the headcount per restriction when you book and we'll build the menu around it. For gluten-free or celiac guests, our team uses tamari instead of soy sauce and keeps separate prep surfaces.

What areas of DFW does Jinbeh cater?

Jinbeh caters throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex from our two locations. Frisco serves the northern DFW corridor — Plano, McKinney, Allen, Prosper, The Colony, Little Elm, Stonebriar, Legacy West, and surrounding offices. Lewisville serves Flower Mound, Highland Village, The Colony, Carrollton, Coppell, Grapevine, Denton, and the I-35E corridor. For events outside our usual radius (downtown Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington), call us — we've delivered as far as a wedding in McKinney and a corporate event in Las Colinas.

What's the most-ordered Jinbeh catering package?

Three patterns dominate. For office lunches: hibachi protein trays (steak, chicken, shrimp) with steamed rice, vegetables, and a sushi sampler tray. For birthdays and family parties: a sushi platter centerpiece (Dragon Roll, Volcano Roll, California Roll, Salmon Roll variety) plus appetizers like edamame, gyoza, and tempura. For weddings: tableside hibachi for the head table with a separate cocktail-hour sushi station for guests.

Does Jinbeh deliver, or do I pick up?

Both. We deliver across DFW for orders that meet our minimum (varies by distance and order size). For smaller orders close to the restaurant, pickup is the faster and lower-cost option. Tableside hibachi catering always includes the chef and a portable setup; you don't need to do anything except clear the space and provide a power outlet for the warming equipment.
