What is the history of Jinbeh?
Jinbeh opened in 1988 as a family-owned Japanese restaurant in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, originally in Lewisville. The family ownership launched the restaurant during an era when hibachi dining was still a novelty in suburban Texas and helped introduce thousands of DFW families to teppanyaki, sushi, and sake. Over the next three decades, Jinbeh expanded to a second location in Frisco at 2693 Preston Road near Stonebriar Centre. The restaurant has stayed independently owned and family-operated through every major industry shift, the rise of chain hibachi, the 2008 recession, the 2020 pandemic, without losing its identity, recipes, or core staff. Many chefs and servers have been with Jinbeh for more than a decade.
Jinbeh's longevity is a function of consistency. The mustard sauce, the fried rice, the teppanyaki show, and the hospitality have stayed essentially the same across generations of guests. Diners who came to Jinbeh as children in the early 1990s now bring their own kids for birthdays and graduations. That continuity is rare and intentional, the family ownership has resisted franchising, corporate buyout, or aggressive expansion in favor of running two restaurants well. Today Jinbeh maintains a 4.6-star OpenTable rating in Frisco and 4.7 stars in Lewisville across more than 1,000 combined reviews, and is a recognized DFW institution for hibachi and sushi.
