Jinbeh Japanese Restaurant - Home

Does Jinbeh have vegan options?

Yes, Jinbeh has vegan options at both locations. Vegan hibachi is available with vegetables and tofu, no butter or eggs, tell your server and chef that you are vegan so they can adjust (most hibachi uses butter on the grill and egg in the fried rice). Steamed white rice or noodles can be substituted. Vegan sushi options include cucumber rolls, avocado rolls, sweet potato tempura rolls (skip the eel sauce), and custom vegetable rolls. Edamame, seaweed salad (check dressing), and steamed rice are vegan. Avoid yum yum sauce (contains mayo), mustard sauce (contains cream), and miso soup (often uses fish-based dashi). Stick to soy sauce, ginger sauce, and simple preparations. Vegan dining works with advance notice and clear communication.

Vegan dining at a hibachi restaurant requires more communication than vegetarian dining because of the butter and egg defaults in traditional hibachi cooking. Tell the host you are vegan when you book, remind your server when seated, and remind the chef when they arrive at the grill. The vegan-friendly hibachi setup: oil instead of butter, no egg in the fried rice (or substitute steamed white rice), vegetables and tofu, soy sauce and ginger sauce. For sushi, the safest vegan rolls are simple ones, cucumber, avocado, vegetable, sweet potato. Most specialty rolls contain mayo, cream cheese, or fish-based sauces. Inari (sweet tofu pouches) is vegan and a tasty option. Ask the sushi chef to build a custom vegan platter.
